Αthens market in the 19th century/ Η αγορά των Αθηνών τον 19ο αιώνα

Ο τόπος συνάντησης  στις αρχές του 19ου αιώνα ήταν το παζάρι. Εκεί συναντούνται Έλληνες, Τούρκοι και Αλβανοί, έμποροι και κάτοικοι της Αθήνας και των γύρω χωριών. Στην πόρτα του καφενείου βλέπουμε τον καφετζή έρχεται για να σερβίρει τον καφέ που παρήγγειλε ο Disdar, κυβερνήτης του κάστρου, που συνοδεύεται από έναν Τούρκο Αγά. Ο Έλληνας Βοεβόδας της Σαλαμίνας στέκει στο πατάκι και συναντάει τον Έλληνα Βαρατατάριο που φοράει τουρμπάνι στο κεφάλι. Το τουρμπάνι ήταν χαρακτηριστικό γνώρισμα των ξένων αντιπροσώπων, αλλά και των ιατρών. Στο βάθος μια συνοδεία από τρεις Τουρκάλες, και άλλες Αλβανές χριστιανές. Ο Τούρκος που είναι ντυμένος στα πράσινα είναι προσκυνητής που επιστρέφει από την  Μέκκα. Στο βάθος διακρίνουμε την Ακρόπολη, το Ερέχθειο και τον Παρθενώνα. Δεξιά του μιναρέ η σπηλιά του Πανός και ο Φράγκικος Πύργος κοντά στα Προπύλαια.

The meeting place of people in the early 19th century was the bazaar. There, encountered Greeks, Turks and Albanians, merchants and residents of Athens and the surrounding villages. In the cafe door we see the coffeehouse owner coming to serve coffee ordered by the Disdar, the governor of the castle, accompanied by a Turkish Aga. The Greek Voivode of Salamis stands on the mat and meets the Varatatarios, a Greek wearing a turban on his head. The turban was a characteristic feature of the foreign representatives and doctors. In the background a convoy of three Turk women, and other Christian Albanians. The Turk who is dressed in green is a pilgrim returning from Mecca. In the background, we see the Acropolis, the Erechtheion and Parthenon. On the right of the minaret, there is the cave of Pan and the Frankish Tower near the Propylaea.
